During the 2004 elections observers counted votes 1. Judicial Reform:  We support the public sector and civil society strengthen criminal justice to increase access of vulnerable groups to the system, and promote its independence and transparency.  We provide specialized training to public officers and college professors in the implementation of the new Criminal Procedures Code.

2. Local Governments:  We work with 45 municipalities throughout the country to help them provide better services to their communities and increase participation and oversight from their citizens.  We promote decentralization policies that promote citizen’s planning, social control and accountability.

3.  Anticorruption: We contribute to the fight against corruption through training to government officials to promote transparency and accountability.   We work with civil society to increase access to public information and democratic values.

4.  Electoral Reform: We provide technical assistance to the Electoral Tribunal, international and domestic observation of elections promoted by civil society groups, voter education campaigns and dialogues on issues of national interest that foster transparent, democratic and free electoral processes.

5. Trafficking in Persons: We support the Government’s effort to combat trafficking in persons.  We promote the establishment of legislation through 5 projects in 6 provinces. 

Results:


• 40 civil society organizations have implemented transparency and judicial reform’s projects.

• Strengthening the Public Defense services in the country has benefited more than 4.000 people in 6 cities of Ecuador.

• 41 municipalities have participatory mechanisms to define their public agendas.

• More than 30 municipalities in Ecuador have citizen oversight for the execution of their projects. 

Beneficiaries: Ecuador’s population benefits from having a solid democracy where citizens participate.  

Funding up to this moment: $29,2 million dollars.
